Guard Your Information
In the game of poker, information is everything. When playing poker, it is key to guard as much of your information as possible. For this reason, it is key to keep your poker hand concealed when you win a pot.
Many amateurs like to show their hands off when they win. Some like to taunt their opponents while others just like to be congratulated on making a good bet or good read.
However, by doing this you will be divulging precious information that may come back to bite you right in the butt.
Poker players are trained to remember key situations in a match. They key in on subtle things that you may not think mean anything. They will watch how you reacted when you got a certain hand (pocket kings for instance). They will remember how you bet your small pairs and draws. Did you scratch your face and do a terrible acting job when you had the nuts. All of these things are critical pieces of information that you want to keep to yourself. The less your opponent knows, the better shape you will be in.
So the next time you bluff someone off the nuts with a 10-3o, make sure you keep it to yourself. No need to gloat. Act like you’ve been there, rake your Poker Chips and move on to the next dealt hand.
